should sites be optimized for iPhone?

Thanks to Liana Lehua of the Apple Phone Show, I now have a screen capture of what my “iPhonified” site (using iWPhone WordPress plugin) looks like on an iPhone or iPod Touch.Considering I don’t yet have either of these devices, I really appreciated being able to at least see a screen shot of what someone using either an iPhone or iPode Touch will experience.
I’m wondering if iPhone users in general prefer an iPhone-optimized version of sites in which there’s no extra zooming involved to view a site or if they’d rather just have the site in its unaltered state in exchange for the extra zooming required to view it.
Anyone out there with an iPhone care to chime in with your comments or perspective on the “iPhonified” debate? I’d love to hear the perspectives of all you iPhone fans out there. Since I can’t yet weigh in with a personal opinion yet on the issue, I’ll keep the iWPhone plugin installed on me site for now and will continue to do so until I hear a compelling argument for why I should consider reverting back to the default site CSS.
In the meantime, I’ve contacted the developers of the plugin and recommended that they consider adding a button to the interface of the style that allows users viewing the site on either iPhone or iPod Touch to revert their view to the default CSS style for the site. My guess is that users will want the freedom to select either the iPhone optimized or unaltered version of the site. I hope that the developers will take that suggestion into consideration and I look forward to seeing that feature added to a future iteration of the plugin.
